SAILING

Throughout history sailing has been an instrument in the development of civilization creating mankind a greater opportunity to travel over the sea from one continent to another, weather it to be used for travelling, warfare, adventure, fishing and more.Sailing is the act of one or more persons using a vessel and fabric cut and sown into sails, which are used to catch the wind to power the vessel across oceans, rivers and seas, to get from A to B.

The history of sailing ships first appeared in Egypt around 3500 BC. These ships were built and used by the Egyptians to transport people and goods along the Nile. There are various different types of sailboats, over thousands of years people have built these sailboats from many different materials, built to fit different amounts of people and cargos and built to suit different travel routes.

Yachts can be mistaken a lot by people thinking that they are only sail boats, yachts are not just a boat designed with sails to catch the wind to power the vessel. The biggest yachts in the waters today is the Platnium reaching 525 feet long (160m)Platinum is undisputedly the worlds largest luxury yacht, this yacht is mistaken for a motor boat. Majority of people who own a yacht race these magnificent developments in life, these sailboats race various different races.
SAILING RACES:
  1. Rolex Sydney to Hobart
  2. Sydney to Gold Coast
  3. Hamilton Fastnet race.
  4. Hamilton Island
  5. Hempie Gosford to Lord Howe Island
  6. Sydney to Newcastle.

Yachts and other sailboats do and will capsize at some point but this is just the joy of sailing and the challenges weather brings with sailing. Capsizing is the tipping over of the vessel which disables it to move no longer. Some modern sailboats have sufficeint flotations to prevent the vessel to stay capsized as it will rise back up, this is now called "self-righting". Capsizing is only when the mast is touching the water's surface. when learning how to sail you will purposely capsie your boat to ensure you now what do do for the future if so to happen just like any ohter sport, preparing for the future.

MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCES:
i have sailed a few times whilst camping, going to sailing compititions, and just on the bay with my father. My dad tought me how to sail as he has been sailing for most of his life. He once sailed as a compeative hobbie doing the Sydney to Hobart races(as shown in the photo at the top) but now he sails just for the enjoyment. My sister and I got our own little Mirror boat called Mr. Shmee, this boat was great for the summer i would take it our with my dad on the bay and have lunch on the boat, this boat only would fit two or three people on in. Sailing has been a big part of my dad's life and for him to teach my sister and I is amazing because saling is a great experience and a great getaway.
My favourite part of being able to sail is going out onto the Trapeze, hanging off the edge of the boat is an amazing feeling. i have sailed around a few places with family and frineds long and short trips, some trips over night. Sailing is a great skill i have learnt and it's a great sport everyone shouuld try.
